- Delaware was 1st settled by the Dutch in 1631
- The British removed the Dutch from the east coast in 1684
- William Penn, the owner of Pennsylvania, persuaded the Duke of York to grant him the western shore of Delaware Bay so Pennsylvania would have access to the ocean in 1682
- It was part Pennsylvania until 1703
- A popular tourist spot is Fort Christiana named after Queen Christiana of Sweden
